Your Natural Gas Service
At Okaloosa Gas, your safety is our #1 priority. Working together, you can help us do what we do best...provide safe and reliable natural gas service 24/7.
Okaloosa Gas maintains natural gas piping along roadways and up to and including your gas meter. Each customer is responsible for the periodic inspection of all above ground and buried piping on the “house side” of the meter.
If you notice leaking, corroded piping, or any unsafe condition, you should report the problem to Okaloosa Gas immediately at 850-729-4700 or have a qualified contractor repair the piping.
Why does Okaloosa Gas require access to your property?
Okaloosa Gas is required under federal and state regulations to maintain natural gas pipelines, service lines including up to your gas meter.
Okaloosa Gas District may send employees to your home to perform:
- Initiate Gas Service
- Routine maintenance on your gas meter and/or Electronic Meter Reading device (ERT)
- Repair or replace your electronic meter-reading device
- Check gas piping and meter for quality control
- Verify meter reads
- Verify operation of equipment
- Turn-off for non-payment
- Reported safety concerns
Customer Responsibilities:
- Allow Okaloosa Gas access to your meter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- No locked gates, leave your gate open and do not enclose your natural gas meter.
- Keep garden hoses, blankets and household items off gas meter.
- Periodically inspect your customer owned and maintained gas lines for leaks and/or corrosion.
- Repair the lines immediately if any unsafe condition is discovered.
- Hand dig when excavating near any buried gas piping.
- The number one threat to Meter Readers are dog attacks.
To help us safeguard them against the danger of dog attacks, please:
- Keep the area around your meter clear and accessible.
- Do not fence in your meter box, if at all possible. Build fences and gates behind, rather than in front of, your utility meter.
- Keep dogs safely secured during the day, or place them in a different area from where the meter is located.
